IELTS for immigration

In Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK, IELTS is accepted as proof of English language ability for study, employment, and immigration.

Below is a list of the different IELTS standards that each nation has established. The minimum score criteria will also change depending on your visa’s requirements and the location of your intended study or employment.

Australia

The Department of Home Affairs accepts IELTS for a variety of visa types as well as for Australian permanent residency. Some Australian professional associations and accrediting organizations also demand it.

IELTS score of six is required for Australian immigration.

Canada

You will probably need to provide proof of your English language ability if you’re seeking for a work visa, professional recognition, or permanent residency in Canada.

We advise contacting the organization for the minimal score for Canadian immigration as this will vary depending on your circumstances.

New Zealand

For many visas, Immigration New Zealand requires IELTS as proof of English language ability. This comprises those who fall under the parent, investor, entrepreneur, skilled migrant, and residence from employment categories.

Immigration to New Zealand requires an IELTS score of at least 6.5.

UK

Anyone wishing to live permanently in the UK (sometimes known as applying for “leave to remain” or “long residency”) must provide proof of their English language proficiency.

IELTS minimum score requirements range from 4 to 7 for immigration to the UK.
